Situation In Nagorny Karabakh Is To Be Discussed By American Co-chairman Of Minsk Group Rudolph Perina

The situation around Nagorny Karabakh (Armenian enclave in Azerbaijan) will be the subject of talks between Azerbaijan leaders and the American co-spokesman of OSCE Minsk group Rudolph Perina. He arrived in Baku on Thursday and is expected to be met by President Geydar Aliev. The American diplomat announced in Baku airport that during his visit new suggestions concerning Karabakh conflict are not to be discussed. His purpose is to inspect the situation in the country. Perina informed also that American, Russian and French co-chairmen will soon discuss specific details of peaceful settlement. He reaffirmed the date of co-chairmen's visit to the region as November 3rd to 8th. Asked about the possibility of America's cancelling the 907th amendment to the act "Of Maintaining Freedom" (which restricts supporting Azerbaijan), Perina said the US would base its decision on the interests of national security and of the fact that Azerbaijan assists the US and its anti-terrorist coalition considerably. Rudolph Perina came to Baku from Yerevan where he was discussing peaceful regulation of the conflict with the government and President Robert Kocharyan.
