Criminal Case On Assassination Of Vice-chairman Of Daghestan's Parliament Launched

A criminal case has been launched on the fact of the murder of Vice-Chairman of the People's Assembly (parliament) of Daghestan (a North-Caucasian republic neighbouring on Chechnya) Arsen Kammayev, the RIA Novosti correspondent reports. As RIA Novosti was told in the law-enforcement bodies of Daghestan, the criminal case was filed by the investigation department of the Administration of the Russian Federal Security Service for the Republic of Daghestan under Article 277 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "encroachment on the life of a statesman and a public figure". As RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the Daghestani Interior Ministry, approximately at 22.30 Moscow time on Tuesday unknown persons sitting in a car opened automatic fire at Kammayev and Abdulkhalik Musayev, head of the Dagestani branch of Promstroibank, who accompanied him. Kammayev and Musayev were mortally wounded and died at a hospital. The car of the criminals was later found burnt-down. As many as 14 spent cartridge cases were found at the scene of the crime.
