Notorious Chechen Terrorist To Stand Trial On November 15

Notorious Chechen terrorist Salman Raduyev will stand trial in the Daghestani capital on November 15, reported Baguzha Unzholov of the Daghestani Supreme Court. Unzholov has been appointed to chair the proceedings. Raduyev, who will be tried along with his accomplices, Turpal-Ali Atgeriyev, Aslanbek Alkhazurov and Gaizurov, is charged with the plotting and staging of a terrorist attack on the town of Kizlyar and the village of Pervomaiskoye, Daghestan, on January 9, 1996. Considering that the materials of Raduyev's case make up than 100 volumes and that the charges brought against the foursome involve 10 articles of the Russian Criminal Code, it is logical to assume that the hearings may turn out a lengthy business. Russia's Prosecutor-General Vladimir Ustinov is expected to head the group of prosecutors at the trial. Raduyev, who formed a terrorist group in March, 1997 with the purpose of staging terrorist acts on large transport communications in the area of Mineralnye Vody, Caucasus, was arrested during a special operation in March, 2000.
