Northern Alliance Forces Are Occupying New Areas Without Taliban Resistance

North Alliance forces are occupying new areas in Afghanistan's north facing no resistance by Taliban. An alliance spokesman told the Saudi Press Agency that the districts of Argi and Imam Seid on the Amudarya river had been seized, along with the provinces of Jowazjan and Zabul. Earlier reports said the Northern Alliance had taken total control over the provinces of Samangan, Faryab, Uruzgan, Balkh, and the cities of Sari-Pul and Khairaton. General Dustum's forces are moving to the west of Badghis province to join the units of General Ismail Khan and assault the province capital Qalehye-Now. According to the Northern Alliance spokesman, the offensive on the town from the west will be launched in the evening. General Khan's troops are 2-4 km away from its outskirts. The Alliance troops are later going to launch offensive on Herat. Meanwhile, the USAF attacked in the morning roads and Taliban positions north of Kabul, according to the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera TV company. Al-Jazeera reported that 9 powerful explosions were heard and reconnaissance aircraft are barraging over the Afghan capital. The USAF have also performed several strikes on Taliban near Kandahar.
