Israeli Troops To Stay In Palestine As Long As Violence Continues

The Israeli troops will not withdraw from certain districts of the so-called A zone, which has been proclaimed to be under full control of the Palestinian National Authority in accordance with the Norwegian accords, as long as the situation remains unstable. This statement was made Tuesday by the Israeli prime minister's adviser Raanan Guissin, who added that withdrawal was directly linked to the termination of Palestinian violence. Still earlier in the day, the foreign ministers of the five UN Security Council permanent members-the USA, Russia, China, France and Great Britain-appealed from New York for the immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops from Palestinian territories. They also recommended the leadership of the Palestinian National Authority to enhance control over the activities of various extremist organisations.
