Taliban Claims It Repelled Northern Alliance's Offensive In South Afghanistan

Taliban claims that its forces had repelled two Northern Alliance's attacks on Friday night and Saturday morning in Afghanistan's southern provinces of Kandahar and Gilmend. According to the Afghan Islamic Press news agency, the fierce battles in the area prevented the anti-Taliban Alliance from cutting the road linking Kandahar with the Pakistani border. The news agency's report alleges that the Taliban forces had also managed to block further advance towards Kandahar by a detachment of Pushto volunteers who had rebelled against the Taliban rule.
