Martial Law In Nagorny Karabakh Prolonged For Another Year

The martial law in the Republic of Nagorny Karabakh (the territory inhabited mostly by Armenians which in the early 1990s unilaterally proclaimed its withdrawal from Azerbaijan) has been prolonged until January 1, 2003. An appropriate decree was signed by President of Nagorny Karabakh Arkady Gukasyan, reported the presidential press service. The martial law in the self-proclaimed Republic of Nagorny Karabakh was declared in 1992. Despite the armistice since 1994, the martial has been prolonged every year by the decree of the republic's president.
