The Russian military men released a Chechen who was taken hostage by militants

Russian military men in Chechnya on Wednesday freed a Chechen who had been taken hostage by militants and spent several months in captivity. According to the information of the Ministry of the Interior, he was kept on the militants' base in the Achkhoi-Martan district in the west of the republic.

The camouflaged base was found in the forest as a result of a reconnaissance operation from the air. The information was reported to the ground. Militiamen, supported by the Interior troops, immediately started acting. In the deserted base, consisting of four dug-outs and a blindage, they found a hostage tied to a table.

According to the released, he was kidnapped from Grozny last autumn by one of the bands from the Achkhoi-Martan district. He and four other men, also Chechens, were forced to make dug-outs and trenches and do other hard work.

At the beginning of January the bandits left the base and took four hostages with them. The fifth hostage was left to guard the base. The name of the released has not been made public in the interests of the investigation.
