Poaching Vessel Detained In La Perouse Strait

The crew of the customs patrol vessel Pavel Vereshchagin have detained a Russian poaching trawler called Andrei Yefimov in La Perouse Strait between Sakhalin and Japan. According to the press service of the Far Eastern Customs Office, the trawler's hold contained 10 huge vats filled with sea water. Inside the vats were around 6,000 live crabs. The captain of the trawler, who had no crab fishing license, was probably intending to smuggle the catch to the neighbouring Japanese island of Hokkaido. A patrol cutter has convoyed the detained trawler to the Sakhalin port of Korsakov for further investigation.
