A large amount of weapons and ammunition was seized in different parts of Chechnya over the New Year holidays. According to the military, raids conducted by federal troops netted 84 grenade launchers, 12 machine guns, 36 assault rifles, 6 rifles, 78 mines and shells, 456 grenades and grenade-launcher rounds, more than 27,000 cartridges, 16 kg of explosives, a mortar, and 53 homemade oil-processing devices. In all, 54 raids were conducted in 30 Chechen towns and settlements over the holidays.
