Chechen Participant in 1999 Attack on Dagestan Detained

A member of Chechen separatists' gang has been detained in the Stavropol territory, in the south of European Russia. The gang was led by one of the most notorious foreign mercenaries, Jordanian Khattab, before his death last summer.

The operation to detain the militant was carried out by the special services in the Mineralovodsky district of the Stavropol region, the FSS North Caucasian department reported on Wednesday.

In the 27-year-old detainee's flat the police confiscated three 400-g trinitrotoluene blocks, an RG-42 grenade and a 3-meter detonating cord with cables and an electric detonator. In 1998-1999 the detainee underwent training in the Kavkaz terrorist camp in Chechnya and in the summer 1999 he took part in the attack on the Botlikhsky district of Dagestan, bordering on the Chechnya republic.
