Russia confirms explosions near military airfield in Crimea

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed explosions at the Saki airfield near the village of Novofedorovka in the Crimea. No casualties were reported, no aircraft was damaged either. 

The Ministry of Defense said that measures were being taken to extinguish the fire. The reasons for the incident are being investigated.

The detonation of several aviation munitions caused a series of explosions on the territory of the Saki airfield in Novofedorovka, the Russian Defense Ministry said. 

Several explosions near the village of Novofedorovka in Crimea were reported on August 9. Sergey Aksenov, the head of Crimea, went to the scene of the incident. Circumstances of the incident are being investigated, he said. 

It is worthy of note that no rockets were seen flying in the area before the explosions occurred. There is no video evidence to prove that the military airfield was attacked. 

According to most recent reports, five people, including a child, were hurt as a result of explosions at the airfield in the village of Novofedorovka, the Minister of Health of the Crimea, Konstantin Skorupsky said. One person was killed.

Four people have shrapnel wounds, another victim is receiving surgical care (the person has a non-penetrating chest wound).
