Israel strikes Gaza killing Islamic Jihad commander

The death toll from the Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip has climbed to seven. About 40 people were injured, the enclave's health ministry said.

Earlier it was reported that four people were killed, including a five-year-old girl.

The Palestinian group Islamic Jihad* (banned in Russia) confirmed the death of one of the commanders of its military wing, Taysir al-Jabari. He was killed in the Israeli airstrike, the group said. 

"The death toll from the Israeli air strike on Gaza has now climbed to seven, including a five-year-old girl, and 40 people suffered injuries of varying degrees of severity," the statement said.

Earlier, the Israeli army announced Operation Breaking Dawn against the Islamic Jihad* group in the Gaza Strip.

A state of emergency was implemented in the 80-kilometer zone around the Gaza Strip, the press service of the Israeli army said.

"Special instructions have been introduced for residents of the rear within a radius of 80 kilometers from the Gaza Strip. The instructions have been published on the National Emergency Portal," the military said in a statement.

The instructions will be valid until 20.00 Saturday. It is prohibited to hold outdoor gatherings of more than ten people and indoor gatherings of more than 50 indoors. Educational activities were prohibited as well.
