An American military man committed suicide in Lithuania, Delfi reports.
The incident took place in the port city of Klaipeda. According to the publication, the 30-year-old serviceman arrived from Latvia in a rented car and stayed at a local city hotel. His body was later found near the drawbridge.
It appears from the CCTV video that the driver deliberately accelerated the car for it to crash into the river from the bridge.
Asta Kazukauskiene, the press secretary of the Klaipeda district police, said that the military police were investigating the incident.
It was later said that a VW Passat vehicle fell into the river from the drawbridge. The driver, a man born in 1992, was killed.
Representatives of the Department of Fire and Rescue informed that divers went down under the water and found the man's dead body in the driver's seat.
According to rescuers, the car that crashed into the river was registered in Latvia. At about 2 a. m., rescuers retrieved the body from the car.
According to BNS, the body of the 30-year-old plain-clothed American serviceman was found in the river. At the time of the accident, the bridge was raised and the barrier was lowered.
The head of the Voronezh region, Alexander Gusev, confirmed the death of Major General Vladimir Zavadsky.
