Russian forces take Vuhlehirska power station under total control

Ukrainian troops were forced to leave the Vuhlehirska thermal power plant.

The Russian troops, units of Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics, as well as volunteer formations, took control of the strategic Vuhlehirska (Uglegorsk) thermal power plant. The Ukrainian troops were forced to abandon the plant completely.

The Vuhlehirska TPP, the strategic significance of which is comparable to that of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in Enerhodar, has been taken under the complete control of the Russian, as well as units of allied forces.

Battles for the Vuhlehirska TPP lasted for several days. The Ukrainian troops could not withstand the powerful offensive and were forced to retreat. Part of the Ukrainian troops and mercenaries continued to hold the territory of the thermal power plant. In the end, however, after many hours of cleansing operations, they were liquidated.

According to unconfirmed reports, fighters of a private military company were also involved in the operation to storm the Vuhlehirska TPP.

The successful capture of the Vuhlehirska TPP makes it possible to significantly simplify the process of moving troops in the western direction. In particular, an early assault on Bakhmut is expected.

Vuhlehirska power station is a coal-fueled thermal power station located in Svitlodarsk, Ukraine. It consists of 7 units with a total power output of 3,600 MW. The station was put in service in 1977.
