The Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the town of Novaya Kakhovka in the Kherson region.
The blast wave damaged the market, hospital and multiple residential buildings. Many were hurt. It was said that an explosion ripped through a warehouse with ammonium nitrate.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine shelled Novaya Kakhovka with HIMARS MLRS, which Kyiv received from the United States.
A warehouse with humanitarian aid, which was located near the scene of the incident, was also damaged, the head of the settlement, Vladimir Leontyev said.
Ammonium nitrate ignition is destructive. In August 2020, a powerful explosion occurred in warehouses with this substance in the port of Beirut. At least 158 people were killed and about 700 were injured.
Local authorities reported that about seven people were killed and 60 were injured as a result of the attack on Novaya Kakhovka. Hundreds of people are still under the rubble.
The head of the administration of the Kakhovka district, Vladimir Leontiev said that more than 70 people were injured as a result of the shelling of the settlement:
