Ilyushin Il-76 military aircraft crashes near households in Russia's Ryazan

Four people were killed in the crash of the Ilyushin Il-76 military aircraft in the Ryazan region of Russia.

According to local authorities, five others were injured in the crash — they were hospitalized with various injuries. Doctors assess the condition of the victims as stable.

The Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft crashed in the area of ​​​​Mikhailovskoye Highway in the city of Ryazan in the morning of June 24. A fire broke out at the crash site, the aircraft damaged power lines in the crash. Several districts were left without electricity. The aircraft crashed in a field near households.

The Il-76 was bound from Orenburg to Belgorod. It made a stop in Ryazan for refueling.


The Ilyushin Il-76 is a multi-purpose, fixed-wing, four-engine turbofan strategic airlifter designed by the Soviet Union's Ilyushin Design Bureau. The Il-76 has seen extensive service as a commercial freighter for ramp-delivered cargo, especially for outsized or heavy items unable to be otherwise carried. It has also been used as an emergency response transport for civilian evacuations as well as for humanitarian aid and disaster relief around the world.
