Selective special operation in Chechnya's Kurchaloi district

The federal forces have launched a special operation in Chechnya's Kurchaloi district to find and eliminate militants and weapons.

According to Selim Tsuyev of the republic's army commandant's office, federal units have sealed off the village of Yalkhoi-Mokhk and are checking the passports of its inhabitants.

The check is a selective one effected "strictly in accordance with the orders issued by Vladimir Moltensky, the Commander of the United Federal Forces, who said the operation must involve representatives of the administration and social organisations." RIA Novosti's source stressed the situation in the operation zone was quiet and no incidents had been registered so far.

The beginning of the operation was prompted by a Sunday armed clash between the federal forces and militants on the outskirts of Yalkhoi-Mokhk. Back then, four militants were killed. None of the federals was hurt.
