Teen gets 40 years in prison for baby drowning

A Dallas teenager drowned a 2-month-old baby that her mother adopted.

A 14-year-old girl admitted drowning the baby and said she had considered doing it the day before as she didn't like it to be in her mother's care.

She picked up the infant while it was sleeping, carried into the family's bathroom, and drowned in a bowl of water.

The teen's mother was given temporary custody of Justice while the baby's mother was in jail.

According to a Child Protective Services report, the mother had twice requested additional help in caring for the infant because she had to work and her 19-year-old son, who watched the baby, was returning to school. The two teen daughters were at home on the day the fatal drowning took place.

The maximum sentence of 40-year imprisonment was imposed.
