Explosion in Grozny: Police officers prevent large terrorist act

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov cursed the "bastards," who arranged a terrorist attack in the capital of Chechnya, Grozny, on October 5. The blast took place at the time, when local residents were celebrating the City Day and the birthday of the leader of the republic. The explosion killed five police officers, 13 more were injured. No civilians were injured in the explosion.

"We will look for these enemies of Islam everywhere and always, and we will not let even their spirit remain in Chechnya. Those who contributed to the killings of the officers will face severe punishment - no one should doubt that. We have paid a high price for peace in Chechnya and we will not let the bastard shatter it," Kadyrov said through his Instagram account.

The suicide bombing occurred on October 5, at about 5 o'clock. The blast took place near the building of a summer amphitheater, where a concert was to take lace at 7:00 p.m. The police officers on duty noticed a suspicious young man, who was wearing a holster with a gun. The man tried to pass himself off as a police officer. When the officers decided to inspect and identify the man, an explosion occurred.  

According to preliminary data, the improvised explosive device was not "a suicide belt", but it was filled with striking elements, so the number of victims was large.

The suicide bomber was identified immediately: he was a 19-year-old native of Grozny, who had left home about two months ago without saying anything to his relatives.

Terrorist acts in Chechnya have become very rare during in recent years. Today, on October 6th, Grozny residents bury the policemen, who died on duty.
