Ukrainian army uses cluster and phosphorous bombs, militia forces say

Militia forces in the southeast of Ukraine are certain that the Ukrainian army used cluster munitions during the shelling of the Luhansk Airport.

"In the area of  the ​Luhansk airport, during the shelling with the use of MLRS Smerch, Hurricane and rocket system Tochka-U, the Ukrainian troops used cluster munitions that are banned by international conventions," representatives of the People's Republic of Donetsk said, RIA Novosti reports.

The use of cluster bombs is banned by international convention. However, this is not the first time, when Ukrainian law enforcers use them is battles. The punitive troops also used phosphorus bombs against civilians in the region. The Investigative Committee of Russia filed a number of criminal cases in connection with war crimes committed by Ukrainian troops in the Donbas.

Representatives for militia forces also said that the Ukrainian artillery damaged a gas pipeline and a water pipe during the shelling of Donetsk.

Militias of the People's Republic of Donetsk say that on the outskirts of Mariupol, they managed to shoot down a Su-25 fighter jet and two Mi-8 helicopters. About 100 Ukrainian soldiers, according to representatives of the republic, were either wounded or killed, ITAR-TASS reports.

During the fighting, militia forces obtained two tanks, about six MLRS, two armored personnel carriers, up to 14 artillery pieces and mortars, up to 24 units of motor vehicles and two warehouses with ammunition, representatives of the army of New Russia said.

The first naval battle, as told by representatives of militia forces, was successfully held on August 31 on the Sea of ​​Azov. Militias destroyed two border boats while Ukrainian military units were trying to bombard the militia units in the village of Shirokino.
