Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov resigns to save his country

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has resigned. Azarov explained the decision with a need to create additional opportunities for socio-political compromise for the sake of a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Azarov also said that he could honestly look into the eyes of every citizen of Ukraine, because he made decisions in accordance with the interests of the people of the country.

It was Azarov, who became directly responsible for the abandonment of the policy of European integration that caused mass protests. Resignation of the government was a part of protesters' requirements.

The Verkhovna Rada held a session on Jan 28 devoted to the crisis in the country. One of the parliamentarian said that the introduction of a state of emergency in the country was not going to be discussed at the session.

Earlier, opposition leaders Vitali Klitschko and Aresny Yatsenyuk refused from the proposition to take positions of prime minister and deputy prime minister in the government of Yanukovych.

Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has recently urged protest leaders to fulfill the promises made to the people. Will Azarov's decision save the country?
