Man buys gasoline and sets himself on fire

In Nizhny Novgorod, an unidentified man committed suicide by committing an act of self-immolation at a gas station on Monday night.

Employees of the gas station said that the unknown man bought 10 liters of petrol from the operator in a plastic canister. He then made a few steps away from the station, poured gasoline on himself and lit a fire.

Eyewitnesses of the incident extinguished the flames and called an ambulance. The victim was rushed to the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, where doctors diagnosed him with burns of 50 percent of the skin. The man died at hospital without regaining consciousness.

Over the past few months, several acts of self-immolation occurred in Russia. A native of Kyrgyzstan committed suicide by setting himself ablaze in late November in a park of Yekaterinburg. It was found that the man was born in 1988.

In mid-October, the police of the Sverdlovsk region prevented a tragedy, after a local man attempted to kill himself because of local housing services. The 43-year-old local private entrepreneur, while intoxicated, came to the city administration and said he wanted heating in his apartment back on. The man doused his clothes with nail polish remover and set it on fire. Security guards quickly extinguished the fire; hospitalization was not necessary.
