Chemical attacks arranged by insurgents: Russia obtains more evidence

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has received new evidence from Syria proving the involvement of Islamist insurgents in the chemical attacks. Iran's foreign minister also confirmed the information about their involvement in the use of sarin gas.

Ryabkov received the evidence in Damascus, where he arrived to have a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem. The Russian side insists UN experts should return to Syria to continue investigation.

Previously, it was reported that there were chemical weapons used in the vicinity of Damascus, although nothing was said about who used the weapons. Experts want to return to Syria to find out information regarding the use of chemical weapons in Aleppo.

On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov suggested that chemical weapons in Syria were used as a measure of provocation. His comment came in support of the version discussed in the media worldwide.

In late August, Bloomberg published a version saying that the weapons in Syria were used by government forces, but it was not Bashar al-Assad, but his younger brother Maher, who ordered to launch the chemical attack. Meanwhile, more information continues to appear including eyewitnesses' reports, saying that it was Syrian extremists, who used sarin in Damascus and Aleppo.
