Shipwreck in Omsk region kills 6 because of drunk captain

The captain of the boat that sank on the Irtysh River, gave a brief testimony on Monday, in which he confirmed his guilt in the collision with a barge that resulted in the sinking of the passenger boat.

The man was navigating the ship in a state of  alcoholic intoxication. Eyewitnesses reported that shortly before the accident, the captain went out to smoke. Now the man can be imprisoned for seven years.

According to recent reports, 33 people, including seven children, who suffered as a result of the accident, remain at hospitals. The shipwreck left six people dead. Five of them will be buried on 21 and 22 August; the body of a citizen of Kazakhstan will be sent home. August 21 will be declared the day of mourning in the Omsk region. Regional governor Viktor Nazarov said that relatives of the killed will receive 500,000 rubles.
