Flashfloods paralyze Prague

A state of emergency has been introduced on most of the Czech Republic due to flashflood that engulfed the Czech Republic, as well as Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The only area that remained unaffected was the Pardubice Region. According to local media, three people were killed as a result of the floods.

Rescue brigades and the army are involved in the large-scale operation to liquidate consequences of the disaster. In Prague, the work of public transport has been disrupted, many people decided to evacuate. On Sunday, the authorities started the evacuation of animals from the Prague zoo. Schools and kindergartens are closed.

In Germany, the situation is critical too: rivers burst their banks and flood roads. Many local residents say that they have never seen anything like this before.

Rains over these territories continue for days, and are not going to stop soon, meteorologists say.
