US sends warships to Libya

The United States sent two warships to the coast of Libya. There are fifty marines aboard the destroyers. The US authorities take the measures to defend American diplomats in Libya.

One of the destroyers - Laboon - has already approached the Libyan coast, the other one - McFaul - will be there in a few days. The two warships are armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles, said NTV. According to the military, the ships will remain near the Libyan coastline.

An FBI investigation team will also arrive in Libya soon, The Voice of America said. According to unconfirmed reports, the U.S. will intensify the collection of intelligence information in Libya, including with the use of drones.

Meanwhile, diplomatic personnel leave Libya. The entire staff of the consulate in Benghazi will be transported to Germany. In addition, it was decided to reduce the number of employees of the U.S. embassy in the capital, Tripoli.

At night of September 12, a crowd of Islamists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. The people were angered with documentary "Innocence of Islam," which was shown on the Internet.  The film was made in the U.S. by amateur filmmakers. The Islamists broke into the building and killed four diplomats, including U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens.
