Crash of Mi-24 helicopter in Chechnya was caused by technical malfunction

The Mi-24 combat helicopter of the Russian Defence Ministry crashed in Chechnya as a result of a technical malfunction, a representative of the Joint Group of Forces (OGV) in the North Caucasus said on Tuesday.

According to him, the obtained preliminary information on the crash shows that "the fall of the helicopter was caused by the failure in one of its control systems". But "the more accurate information will become known only after a number of technical expert examinations are made", the source added.

The Mi-24 helicopter of the Defence Ministry of Russia "roughly" landed at 10.50 Moscow time on Monday, November 11, 6 kilometres away from Pravoberezhnoye populated area of the Grozny district. After its fall, the helicopter was completely burnt down. Neither of the two crewmen was hurt.
