Egyptians demand Hosni Mubarak execution

Egyptian protesters are not satisfied with the life sentence against Hosni Mubarak and demand the death penalty against the dictator... Protesters converged on Tahrir Square in Cairo to demand the maximum penalty for the former dictator, who was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Egyptians demonstrated their opposition to the Hosni Mubarak sentencing to life imprisonment on the mythical square in the Egyptian capital after he ordered a crackdown that killed 850 people during the "Arab Spring" marches.

Protesters set up fences and barbed wire to prevent the passage of vehicular traffic at all entrances to the site.

In the total absence of security forces, the Egyptians chanted slogans like "The people want Mubarak executed" or "Null and Void" in reference to the judgment of the Criminal Court that acquitted the former dictator and his sons, Alaa and Gamal, of charges of corruption as prescribed.

"We do not want problems. We have to protest in the square and make our voices heard on this unjust and illegitimate sentence," said Alaa Mohamed Mahfouz, one of the volunteers in the human chain.

The merchant, Yasser Ali, wearing a protest banner with pictures of Mubarak and presidential candidate, Ahmed Shafiq, said he is "disappointed" because, in his view, the process was "a political trial and not fair." 

"If Shafiq (last prime minister of the regime) is elected president, the first thing will be to release him," he added.

Mubarak, who suffered a heart attack on Saturday, and Interior Minister, Habib Al Adli, were sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of the deaths of demonstrators during the revolution that ended with the resignation of the ruler in February 2011.
