Abkhazian president survives sixth assassination attempt

Unidentified individuals attacked the vehicle in which the President of Abkhazia, Alexander Ankvab, was travelling to work. 

The assassins opened fire at the vehicle near the town of Gudaut, at the time when Akvab as traveling to his work to the city of Sukhum. A security guard was wounded in the attack. The guard later died. The president was not injured. 

Abkhazian Ambassador to Russia, Igor Akhba, said the following regarding the incident: "An attempt against the life of Abkhazian President Alexander Ankvab was committed in the Gudaut district, on the road to Sukhum. I have no other details for the time being," the official said, Dni.ru website reports. 

It is worthy of note that it became the sixth attempt against Ankvab's life. They tried to assassinate him in 2005, 2007 and 2010. In 2005, Ankvab's cortege, who then served as the prime minister, was attacked twice. He was not injured in those attacks.

However, Ankvab suffered a contusion and fragmentation wounds in the back in 2007, during another attempted assassination. In 2010, unidentified individuals fired grenade launchers at Ankvab's house. The politician suffered fragmentation wounds of his arm and leg.
