Explosion at Italian restaurant in Moscow kills two

Two people were killed in an explosion that occurred yesterday afternoon (January 9) in Il Pittore restaurant in Moscow. As many as 27 people, including six children, suffered various injuries.

The explosion occurred in the south-west of the capital in the Italian restaurant on Novocheremushkinskaya Street 38. Most likely, a gas cylinder exploded in the building. The blast took place on the first storey of the restaurant, in the kitchen area, Profi-News reports. Two bodies were uncovered from under the rubble on the second storey, reports NewsInfo.

The children, who suffered injuries as a result of the explosion, were taken to the Institute of Pediatrics with first and second degree burns of their faces and hands.

The restaurant building partially collapsed as a result of the blast.

According to RBC, most of the victims are restaurant staff.
