The company official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the information has not been made public yet, said Tuesday that the hostages include two workers from the United States, one worker from Canada, two from France and two from Indonesia.

The official also says the two workers injured during the hijacking of the Afren PLC oil rig are in stable condition, according to The Associated Press.

A statement from Afren company said: "Two crew members are stable after receiving wounds to the leg and have been [taken] by helicopter to a shore-based clinic. It is believed that five crew members have been taken hostage."

According to early reports from Nigeria those kidnapped are two Frenchmen, two Americans and one Canadian. Nigeria's main militant group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), made no immediate claim of responsibility, Telegraph.co.uk reports.
