Gunman shoots five men and kills himself in Gainesville neighborhood

41876.jpegA gunman killed himself Monday after he fatally shot one man then drove through his Gainesville neighborhood and wounded five others, police said.

The gunman shot himself in his red pickup truck, Gainesville police Cpl. Tscharna Senn said at a news conference. Authorities reported that all those shot were men but refused to confirm the identity of the shooter, victims or give a motive.

The shooter was targeting specific people at each location and shot the men he was looking for, Maynard said. Multiple rounds were fired at each spot, and one gun was found with the shooter, according to The Associated Press.

As for a motive, police have found no motive at all, making this crime seem rather odd and surprising, giving a scare to the population in the area.

"We have no idea right now, absolutely none," Senn told the Gainesville Sun. "It appears to be random."

Gainesville Police Capt. Ed Book told the Gainesville Sun earlier that the suspect had been pulled over and shot himself.

"We believe we're with the suspect and the vehicle, and there is no one out there running around," Book said earlier.

The gunman started his rampage at about 4pm, shooting five people within Gainesville's city limit, before taking the shooting to Alachua County, where two people were shot, Gainesville police Cpl. Tscharna Senn said, Spreadit.org reports.
