Two Korean Climbers Missing in Nepal Himalayas

One of the two climbers who went missing in the Himalayas has been found dead, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Tuesday. A Nepalese search team aboard a helicopter found the body and took a picture of it, a ministry official said.

They cannot confirm who the dead person is at the moment as it will take a day at least to identify the body, the official said. Bad weather conditions made it difficult for them to conduct the mission, according to the ministry.

The discovery of the body came a day after two South Korean climbers, Yoon Chi-won, 40 and Park Haeng-soo, 27, went missing, while descending from a Himalayan peak, Korea Times informs.

The ministry said the South Korean Embassy in Nepal was looking into the exact cause of the accident and other details.

Meanwhile, South Korean female mountaineer Oh Eun-sun is reportedly planning to make her final push to the summit of Annapurna in the Himalayas on Tuesday afternoon, seeking to become the world's first woman to scale all of the world's 14 highest peaks.

Oh, 44, has succeeded in conquering 13 of the 14 mountains over 8,000 meters above sea level, all located in the Himalayan region. Annapurna, the 10th highest peak in the world at 8,091m, is the last remaining eight-thousander she must climb to set the new record for women climbers, Yonhap informs.
