Truck and train collide in France, driver killed

A truck driver was killed and a conductor was seriously injured in a collision of a French high-speed train and a truck on Wednesday.

The local prefecture said that the truck and the train collided at a level crossing near the town of Tossiat, in the Ain region of eastern France. TGV train was heading from Paris to Geneva in Switzerland.

Thirty-three people were slightly injured and received treatment on the scene, and the train conductor was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The SNCF rail network said the train partially derailed in the crash, and that the driver had likely slammed on the breaks before impact.

The exactly circumstances of the accident were not immediately clear. The barriers at the level crossing were not damaged, and the truck apparently did not break through them.

Rescue services were on the scene. Uninjured passengers were taken by bus to another train.
