Leo Tolstoy's estate cleaned up by Russian volunteers

Young volunteers from all over the Russian Federation have gathered in Yasnaya Polyana on Sunday, the 14th of April 2013. They are cleaning up the estate of 412 hectares, which belonged to the family of the famous Russian author, Leo Tolstoy.

At Yasnaya Polyana, Leo Tolstoy wrote his famous novels War and Peace and Anna Karenina. During his lifetime, he had called the estate his "inaccessible literary stronghold." 

Yasnaya Polyana is situated 12 kilometres south of Tula and 200 kilometres from Moscow. In 1921, the estate was nationalized and became a memorial museum. Its current director is Vladimir Tolstoy, one of the writer's descendants.
