Xerox Corp. leaves Stamford headquarters for smaller facility in Connecticut

Xerox Corp. is leaving its longtime Stamford headquarters for a smaller facility in Norwalk.

The company, which has been in Stamford since 1969, announced last year it would relocate in the area. The move from its 25-acre (10-hectare) Stamford campus to the smaller Glover Avenue site in Norwalk is expected late this summer, company officials said. More than 300 employees will be moved.

"We chose the building because it met all of our needs," Xerox spokeswoman Christa Carone said. "We can make it a more inviting place for our employees. It gives us the opportunity to promote the Xerox brand with signage."

The company's work force at headquarters is down from about 600 employees seven years ago. The printer and copier maker has cut thousands of positions in recent years and introduced numerous new products to return to profitability, the AP says.

Xerox moved its corporate headquarters from Rochester, New York, to a four-story, 225,000-square-foot (20,900-square-meter) building in Stamford in 1969.
