Inflation in the Eurozone hit a record 8.6% in June

Inflation in Italy reached its highest level in 36 years in June

Inflation in Italy in June rose to 8% in annual terms, we are talking about the highest rate since January 1986. Such preliminary estimates were distributed on Friday by the Italian Institute of Statistics (ISTAT).

"In June, inflation accelerated again and reached a level (+8.0%) not seen since January 1986 (when it was +8.2%)," the document says.

At the same time, experts note that inflation is increasingly observed not only in the energy sector, but also in other "commodity sectors, both in the sphere of goods and in the sphere of services."

Thus, the acceleration of growth in food prices led to an increase in the cost of the consumer basket by 8.3% (also the highest figure since January 1986).

The Italian Central Bank (Bankitalia) predicts inflation will rise to 6.2% in 2022, and up to 8% if Russian energy supplies are stopped in the summer.
