Russian airlines transport nearly 600K passengers on Crimean routes

The airport of Simferopol, the Crimea, served more than 586,000 passengers in August, officials at the Russian Aviation Agency told Itar-Tass. Since mid-March 2014, when the Crimea became a part of the Russian Federation, the airport of Simferopol has served 1,625,000 passengers. The passenger traffic of the airport in 2013 made up about 1.2 million passengers.

The Simferopol International Airport will receive about 12 billion rubles for reconstruction within the framework of the federal target program for the development of the Crimea and Sevastopol. The funds will begin to arrive from 2016.

The federal target program provides for complete renovation of the runway, taxiways, aircraft parking, lighting and navigation equipment, as well as the construction of drainage systems. The program also provides for the construction of an air terminal complex.
