Russian Railways sues Apple Inc.

Russia's railway monopoly Russian Railways, known for the Russian initials as RZD, has filed a lawsuit against U.S.-based corporation Apple Inc. The Russian side seeks two million rubles ($67,000) for the use of its trade mark in Apple Store online shop. The first court meeting on this issue will be held today, February 6th, at the Moscow Arbitration Court.

RZD's logo was used in several applications of Apple Store, in particular, in a program that allows to calculate the cost of cargo transportation in Russia. The application was developed by Russian programmer, and RZD's logo was removed from it after the company took a court action. However, Russian Railways has decided to receive a compensation for the damage that has already been done.

Last year, Apple was on trial with another railroad company from Switzerland. The company accused Apple of using the patented image of railway station clock in iOS 6 interface. The American company was forced to pay $ 21 million to the Swiss carrier.
