Number of Foreclosure Still Rising

Despite recent good news about increasing home sales and moderating price drops, there is still no relief in sight when it comes to foreclosures. RealtyTrac will report Thursday that a record 360,149 homeowners received a foreclosure filing in July, up 7 percent from the previous month and up 32 percent from a year ago , ABC News reports.

Meanwhile, the number of home foreclosures is still rising, despite other signs the economy is starting to improve.

Foreclosure filings were up 7 percent from June to July and 32 percent from the same month last year, RealtyTrac Inc. said today, according to the Associated Press.

Georgia was No. 7 in foreclosure notices, RealtyTrac said.

Nevada had the nation’s highest foreclosure rate for the 31st-straight month. It was followed by California, Arizona, Florida, Utah, Idaho and Georgia , Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

With unemployment climbing, the number of city homes in some stage of the foreclosure process hit 2,517 in July, a nearly 15% jump compared with both the previous month and July 2008, according to stats released today by foreclosure listing firm RealtyTrac , New York Daily News reports.
