Missing Brazil beauty queen contacts police from London

A former beauty queen who disappeared five months ago has contacted Brazilian police from London to say she is fine and does not want to be bothered, authorities said Monday.

Taiza Thomsen, 24, who was crowned Miss Brazil in 2002, had not talked to her family since September, prompting her parents to request help from authorities last month.

But Brazilian federal police said in a statement that she surfaced in Britain on Saturday: "Thomsen reported that she was doing well in London and that she did not want to be found, not even by her parents."

Investigators said it did not appear she was being pressured or coerced by anybody, and that they would close the case.

"She has the right to stay isolated," the statement said.

Authorities had been trying to find Thomsen since Jan. 25, when her parents reported that she was missing. Police were not discarding the possibility that human trafficking played a role in the disappearance, reports AP.

The case prompted Brazilian police to ask for assistance from Interpol and British authorities.

One person who claimed to be a friend of the former beauty queen said Thomsen was not talking to her parents because she fought with them.

A former journalism student, Thomsen inherited the Miss Brazil sash in 2002 when Joseane Oliveira acknowledged being married and was stripped of the title.
