Iran to resume production of spare parts for centrifuges

Iran is ready to resume work to produce component parts for centrifuges that are used to enrich uranium, RIA Novosti was told on Wednesday by a source in the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization.

"Production of component parts for centrifuges used in the uranium enrichment processes may be started today," he said.

"This complicated and long process contains three stages: production of spare parts, their assemblage and testing," said the source.

Iran officially announced resumption of work to produce parts for centrifuges and to assemble them at the end of last week.

This was caused by the fact that three European countries (the UK, France and Germany) quit agreements reached with Iran earlier. In line with the agreements, Europeans were to have taken measures to close the "Iran file" at the latest session of the IAEA Board of Governors, while Tehran suspended work in the field of uranium enrichment of its own accord.

The European Union, Iranians believe, violated its commitments, having proposed a tough and anti-Iraqi, in their opinion, draft resolution at the agency's Board of Governors.

Meanwhile, Tehran, despite the decision to resume activity in the sphere of uranium enrichment, voiced its readiness to simultaneously continue the negotiating process on the problem of Iranian nuclear programs with the said European states on a long-term basis.
