If the radical opposition comes to power in Georgia, there will be a repeat of the events of 1937, said Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze in an exclusive interview with Georgian TV station Imedi today. Shevardnadze reminded people of the promise made by radical opposition leader Mikhail Saakashvili, who said that if he comes to power the president and members of the government would rot in prison.
'What is happening today in Georgia is extremely dangerous, as dangerous as the personality of Saakashvili,' said Shevardnadze. Shevardnadze said that he is aspiring to a dialogue with the opposition. However, he does not intend to resign simply because Saakashvili and 'three dozen youth, who are running around the Parliament with Flags, want him to.' The question of my removal is not up to Saakashvili, but depends on the people who elected me,' said Shevardnadze.
