NATO commander admires the power of the Russian army

Commander of NATO forces in Europe, General Curtis Scaparrotti, said that he was impressed with the Russian military doctrine and the military capabilities of the country.

During a speech at a security forum in Colorado, Scaparrotti said that even though most of the Russian military doctrine is based on the old Soviet doctrine, the Russians are very flexible in thinking.

"You can see that they've imposed discipline on their force," Scaparrotti said. "They are pretty agile in [their] thinking. Russia is back... I'm impressed. They are modernizing... We have an adversary here that we have to take very seriously, in my opinion," he added.

Curtis Scaparrotti also appreciated the operation of the Russian Air Force in Syria. According to the general, he was impressed with how Russia was firing long-range high precision missiles from submarines and from medium-range bombers. The missiles were launched in an impressive way for demonstration and training, the official added.

The NATO summit in Warsaw in July showed that the alliance has formed a new course of its relations with Russia. It can be characterized by the following expression: "If you want peace, get ready for war."
