FC Dynamo Moscow celebrates 90th anniversary

The Russian football club Dynamo Moscow was founded on the 18th of April 1923 and celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.

One of its honorary members was the Soviet Interior Minister, Felix Dzerzhinsky. The club's motto, "Power in Motion", stems from Soviet author, Maxim Gorky, who was an active member of the Dynamo sports society.

In 1936 and 1937, Dynamo Moscow won the first two Soviet Championships, followed by more national titles in 1940 and 1945. The club was victorious in another five Championships and one Soviet Cup between 1949 and 1959.

The football team's traditional ground was the Dynamo Stadium in Moscow's Petrovsky Park, with 36.540 seats. In 2008 it was closed down for demolition, however, to be replaced soon by VTB Arena, with a seating capacity of 33.000.

The traditional colours of FC Dynamo Moscow are blue and white. The football team is managed by Dan Petrescu from Romania and ranks 4th in the Russian Premier League.
