Two soldiers were injured seriously by an improvised bomb explosion southern Russia's troubled Ingushetia region Tuesday.
The soldiers were searching for militants in a wooded area at night when they accidentally set off the device, which was apparently fashioned out of an anti-personnel mine, Ingushetia Interior Ministry spokesman Nazir Yevloyev said. A duty officer at the ministry had said earlier that the soldiers were killed.
Yevloyev said the two were hospitalized in the neighboring North Ossetia region with serious injures, but that doctors believed their lives were not in danger.
Ingushetia, a mostly Muslim region adjacent to war-scarred Chechnya, is plagued by militant attacks that often target police or other government forces.
