Energy Problems Hamper The Far Eastern Economic Development

Energy problems in the Far East seriously hamper the economic development of the federal district, plenipotentiary representative of the Russian president in the Far Eastern federal district Konstantin Pulikovsky said on Tuesday. Speaking at the conference of the district's power engineers in Vladivostok (the administrative centre of the Maritime Territory), Pulikovsky pointed out that the "high energy tariff makes many Far Eastern goods non-competitive on the Russian and international markets, and intensifies the orientation of the economy to the export of raw materials." According to Pulikovsky, the fact that fuel is delivered to the district is the cause for high energy tariffs. "The transport component in the Far Eastern tariff exceeds 60 percent." he stressed. The plenipotentiary representative believes that "for the more dynamic development of the federal district's economy it is necessary to establish an average Russian energy tariff in the Far East and build the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk Territory-Maritime Territory gas pipeline and the Bureiskaya hydropower station more dynamically."
