Iranian President warns: Attack on Iraq will destabilise region

The Iranian President, Mohammad Khatami, has warned that any attack on Iraq will destabilise the region and considers that the current pressure on Baghdad is a question of interference in affairs of a sovereign state.

In a meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Yusef Bin Alawi, President Khattami declared on Sunday that “The territorial integrity of Iraq and the future of its people, who face pressures and interference in their affairs, is important for all the countries in the region”.

However, he added that “Baghdad has to accept the international resolutions and must eliminate the causes for insecurity and the interference of the allies”, referring to the international arms control guidelines.

Bin Alawi stated that all the countries in the Gulf “are opposed to any attack against Iraq or any other Moslem state”.
