Central Niger town resounds with gunfire

Gunfire sounded throughout the town of Agadez, in central Niger. It was unclear who was behind the shooting, which continued for about two hours.

"I'm with my children in my house, I can't know more than just that I heard it," Aghali Abdou said by telephone from Agadez. He said the shooting appeared to have stopped by the evening. Other Agadez residents reached by phone confirmed the gunfire and said most people were still staying off the streets.
